What to do in Dieppe |
- Today, Dieppe is still a thriving port town and is only a four-hour trip from Newhaven with Transmanche ferries or from Dover with LD Lines. This means that Dieppe and the surrounding area is a popular choice for a weekend break or an enjoyable self-catering cottage holiday.
- The centre of town is a pleasant mix of old buildings and landmarks and has plenty of restaurants to choose from.
- Dieppe is famous for its scallops and fresh seafood features heavily on most brasserie and restaurant menus.
- The sandy beach is lined with lawns and an abundance of cafés and places to eat.
- There is much to discover locally and families with children will certainly enjoy a visit to the Cité de la Mer museum.
- Housed at the old port, the museum is dedicated to life at sea, maritime activity and the coastal environment. Wander through the various aquariums home to sea horses, jelly fish and more, learn about fishing techniques in Normandy and understand how ship building has evolved over the centuries.
- The Chateau-Musée de Dieppe overlooks the town and the sea below and is home to one of the most beautiful collections of ivory sculptures in Europe. There are also superb displays of ancient maps, popular art and earthernware.
